This procedure applies to U.S. citizens, legal residents of the U.S., and documented travelers in the U.S. requesting entry visas through the consular office of the Embassy of Angola in Washington, D.C.

U.S. citizens qualify automatically, upon approval, for two-year, multiple entry visas to Angola.  Non-residents do not, unless their respective countries have an immigration agreement with the Republic of Angola.

For Members of the Chamber: draft a letter on company/organization letterhead detailing the applicant's association with the company/organization, dates of travel, reason for the trip and a listing of companies, organizations and/or government agencies, and the respective contacts and government officials, with whom the applicant will meet during his/her trip to Angola. 

For Non-Members: the same as above.  Also, the applicant must include, at least, one letter from a company with which the applicant will be meeting.

General visa information
The general information provided below is intended to minimize the inconvenience to those who may be planning travel to Angola on Consular visa in the near term. Under current regulations, the local consular office has been authorized to process the ordinary visa and the work visas.


Work Visa - The work visa must be initiated in the country of origin. The Consular office must send the work visa request to the Angolan Directorate for Immigration and Customs (DEFA) in Angola for approval. The processing time for a Work Visa takes at least 45 days from the day of its receipt by our office of the complete application.

The work visa is valid for two years and multiple entries are permitted and the validity of the visa may not exceed the period of the contract.

Ordinary Visa - The ordinary visa takes up to four days to process from the day of receipt the complete requirements. For ordinary visa, the time of stay may not excead 90 days.

Applicants by mail - Applications receipt by mail will take an extra day, if all documentation is in order. Further, mail applicants should send a stamped envelope or pre-paid Federal Express, UPS, D.H.L. envelope, to return the documentation. We do not assume any responsibility for other form of return process. Do not include with visa fee, the amount to pay the return of your documentation.

The following must be submitted by all applicants:

  1. An application form filled out in duplicate.
  2. One recent passport photograph with the name on back. (No snapshots)
  3. A passport valid for at least 6 months.
  4. Documentation or correspondence related to the purpose of travel.
  5. Foreign permanent residents of US must present a copy of Green card.

    Documentation required for a transit visa:
  6. Photocopy of a ticket

    Additional documentation required for an ordinary visa:
  7. A letter of invitation sent by the individual or institution to be contacted in Angola.
  8. Photocopy of a round trip ticket or travel itinerary.
  9. Certified check or money order in the amount of US $110.00. We do not accept personal checks.
  10. Proof of means of subsistence while in Angola (US$ 100.00 per day).
    Note: A bank statement or letter from an employer sponsoring the travel normally is considered sufficient proof.

    Additional documentation required for a work visa:
  11. Copy of contract addressed to the Consular services of the Embassy of Angola, signed by the representative of the firm or institution employing, hiring or sponsoring the trip, with the specific reference to the job to be performed by the applicant, the duration of the engagement and assuming full financial responsibility for the applicant. It must be authenticated by Public Notary.
  12. Two additional photographs.
  13. Statement agreeing to respect Angolan laws, authenticated by a Public Notary
  14. Certification of no pending criminal proceedings authenticated by the Department of State.
  15. Medical statement of health including HIV test authenticated by a Public Notary.
  16. Certified check or Money order in the amount of US $300.00.


The requirements listed above should not, in any way, be considered all inclusive. The Consular office of the Embassy of Angola has the right to request additional information, if necessary.

Procedures for Document Authentication for presenting and filing official documents in the Republic of Angola

(This procedure applies to any organization/company in the U.S.)

1. The document must first be witnessed before a local notary public in the District of Columbia. Some banks in D.C. or pharmacies can notarize documents, with a photo identification with signature. The cost of this process may vary.

or

If the company/organization was incorporated in another state, the document must be notarized by a notary public commissioned by the respective state.

2. The document must then be certified under the Seal of the District of Columbia. Ask for formal certification for foreign use. The cost is $10.00 per document, they accept cash or check, no credit cards. Checks are made out to the District of Columbia Treasurer.  There is a 15 document limit per applicant, per day.

If the company/organization was incorporated in another state and the notarization was obtained there, a certification from the respective state's department of state or county court clerk must be obtained.  Fees will vary from state to state.

3. From there, the application must be taken to the U.S. State Department Authentication Office at the following address.:

The cost is $5.00 per document. They accept Check, Money Orders, Visa & Mastercard. Cash is accepted for walk-ins only. Checks are made out to the U.S. Department of State.  There is a 15 document limit per applicant per day

4. The document is then taken to the Angolan Embassy for final authentication

5.  The fee for authentication at the Embassy of Angola is $150.00 per document.  The Embassy accepts checks drafted from accounts held by businesses, organizations, agencies or other institutions, and money orders.   The Embassy does not accept personal checks, credit card or cash payments.
