Facts About The US-Angola
Chamber of Commerce



The United States-Angola Chamber of Commerce is an independent, non-profit organization of businesses united to promote trade and investment between the United States and Angola. The Chamber was established in 1990 and has a membership that consists of over 75 companies.  Please click here for a listing of new members of the U.S.-Angola Chamber of Commerce, along with contact information and brief backgrounds.

A Dedicated Staff
The Executive Director of the Chamber, Paul Hare, participated in the negotiations that led to the Lusaka Protocol in November of 1994 and  was the U.S. special representative to the Angola Peace Process from 1994 until 1998. Furthermore, Mr. Hare, a career Foreign Service Officer, was also Ambassador to Zambia. Consequently, he offers a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Chamber and its members.

The Chamber believes that Angola has the potential to be one of Africa's most prosperous countries. The Chamber's goal is to put the private sector at the forefront of Angola's development. Trade and investment create jobs and provide many other benefits to the citizens of both Angola and the United States, as well as other participating organizations. To promote trade, investment and Angolan economic development, the Chamber:

  • Assists members identify and respond to business opportunities.
  • Hosts Angolan officials and private sector representatives visiting the United States.
  • Supports the development of the Angolan private sector.
  • Sponsors trade missions to Angola.
  • Represents the views of the private sector to officials in both governments.
  • Keeps members informed about changes in laws, regulations, policy and economic conditions.
  • Organizes trade and investment seminars in Angola and the United States on economic conditions.

The Chamber is well-positioned to provide a quick, practical and effective response to the needs of members. In addition, the Chamber has also assisted in organizing business responses to humanitarian needs in Angola.

SERVICES & BENEFITS

Publications
A quarterly newsletter, and periodic fax and Email alerts keep members informed of the latest economic and political developments.

Briefings/Luncheons
Prominent American and Angolan speakers discuss trade and investment topics, as well as Angola's political situation. These events provide both key information and excellent networking opportunities.

Targeted Business Assistance
Information on many sectors of the Angolan economy; assistance with market research; help in identifying local partners; assistance in finding legal, clerical and translation support.

Angola Representative
Currently the Chamber has a part-time Luanda Administrative Assistant, Ms. Ana Lwena Pegado. The Luanda Administrative Assistant is based in the Chevron Building (Avenida Lenin, No. 77).  Ms. Pegado can be contacted by calling (244-2) 392-646 ext. 1661 or by fax at ext. 1687. Ms. Pegado is assisted by Ms. Barbara Neto (ext. 1687).  The Luanda Administrative Assistant is supervised directly by Mr. Fernando Paiva, Manager of Public and International Affairs at ChevronTexaco in Angola.

Trade Missions
The Chamber has hosted three trade missions to Angola. Trade missions provide cost-effective access to key contacts and decision-makers.

Assists with Consular Affairs Procedures at Embassy of Angola, U.S.A.
The Chamber assists members in consular affairs procedures at the Embassy of Angola in the Washington, D.C.  The Chamber offers information, visa applications forms, and process assistance to members requiring entry visas into Angola.  Please click here for more information on visa procedures and fees for obtaining entry visas into Angola.   The Chamber also assists with document  authentication procedures for Angola.   The document authentication process is necessary for any document that is going to be used in Angola, whether to register a non-profit organization or a branch, incorporate a company, file a power of attorney, etc.  For more information on document authentication, please click  here.
